Camogli as a Maritime Community in the Age of Transition (1850s-1914)

This contribution aims to frame the evolution of the maritime community of Camogli within the broader context of the global transformations shaped by the transition from sail to steam navigation. From a methodological per- spective, the chapter attempts to hold together both local and global dimen- sions: indeed, an analysis completed on a micro-historical research subject—a Ligurian maritime town, populated by no more than 10,000 people—is intended to connect with macro-historical processes, such as the transition from sail to steam.
