The essay considers the will, dated 1338, of Violante, widow of Francesco Ultramarino, scion of a Genoese aristocratic family. Violante had married into a family which had recently come to prominence and which would shortly afterwards create the albergo Centurione (here partially reconstructed in its earliest phase). The document, as well as other testamentary instruments drawn up by aristocratic women during the late Middle Ages, highlight their contribution in pursuing the patrimonial projects of the families thay married into, favouring a strictly patrilineal transmission of assests, often to the detriment of their own daughters.

Abstract
The essay considers the will, dated 1338, of Violante, widow of Francesco Ultramarino, scion of a Genoese aristocratic family. Violante had married into a family which had recently come to prominence and which would shortly afterwards create the albergo Centurione (here partially reconstructed in its earliest phase). The document, as well as other testamentary instruments drawn up by aristocratic women during the late Middle Ages, highlight their contribution in pursuing the patrimonial projects of the families thay married into, favouring a strictly patrilineal transmission of assests, often to the detriment of their own daughters.File in questo prodotto:
