Since the home is often the setting for the majority of gender-based violence against women, advancing research on housing support for survivors is essential. In Italy, housing-related services are primarily offered by anti-violence centers and shelters, regulated by national and regional frameworks. The 2022 State-Regions Agreement establishes minimum standards for these facilities in terms of organization and legal compliance; however, it fails to provide guidance on the spatial design of these environments. We propose that organized cohabitation and the intentional design of architectural spaces can play a crucial role in empowering women as they rebuild their lives after experiencing violence. Drawing from literature and essays featured in this book, we outline prelimi- nary guidelines for the design of shelter homes tailored to the specific needs of women survivors of violence.
