Rewilding natures in the Ligurian mountains

This chapter focuses on the case of Liguria (NW Italy), looking at environmental and socio-economic implications of rewilding processes in terms of vegetation growth, loss of agro-silvo-pastoral activities and the recent return of wildlife. The chapter explores the challenges and opportunities of rewilding processes in the region and how these are received by media and stakeholders. It also discusses how such phenomenon can contribute to implement nature-based economies and shape a new multi-service landscape perspective, characterised by the coexistence of ‘domestic’ and ‘wild’ natures.
