Seen through the lens of ‘multilingual philology’ (Dembeck 2017), contemporary German-language literature is multilingual. Multilingualism is not least the literary means by which themes such as language, generations/family genealogies, migration and EU politics are negotiated in the texts. This article analyses multilingualism in Saša Stanišić’s Herkunft (2019) and Fatma Aydemir’s Dschinns (2022) and shows how the texts inscribe themselves into European or even world literature.
