The poetry of Nonnus of Panopolis is deeply rooted in a dialogue with literary tradition, emerging in late antiquity - a period marked by a keen awareness of the need to preserve and transmit the cultural treasures of the past. Within this context, Hellenistic poetry exerts a pervasive influence on the Dionysiaca, Nonnus’ monumental epic-mythological poem. This volume explores the interplay between Nonnus’ work and that of Aratus of Soli, an author often regarded today as “minor”, yet whose enduring legacy Nonnus actively engages with. Through a sophisticated and intricate system of allusive adaptation, he reinterprets the astronomical poem in light of his contemporary cultural milieu, reviving it within the rich and multifaceted universe of his Dionysian epic.

Abstract
The poetry of Nonnus of Panopolis is deeply rooted in a dialogue with literary tradition, emerging in late antiquity - a period marked by a keen awareness of the need to preserve and transmit the cultural treasures of the past. Within this context, Hellenistic poetry exerts a pervasive influence on the Dionysiaca, Nonnus’ monumental epic-mythological poem. This volume explores the interplay between Nonnus’ work and that of Aratus of Soli, an author often regarded today as “minor”, yet whose enduring legacy Nonnus actively engages with. Through a sophisticated and intricate system of allusive adaptation, he reinterprets the astronomical poem in light of his contemporary cultural milieu, reviving it within the rich and multifaceted universe of his Dionysian epic.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
