In the current debate on the role of drawing in the age of computerisation, many theses are rekindling interest in freehand drawing when it seemed that representation was heading in the exclusive direction of technical drawing. There is renewed interest in drawing as a means of knowledge and communication in the design approach and also in the communication of the design itself. Today, digital tools are necessary in every evolutionary phase of the project, but the transposition of the idea onto ‘paper’ always makes use of the freehand sketch (frequently now realised with a graphic tablet). the sketch is then elaborated in the design phase almost exclusively with digital means, but in the final phase of communication and dissemination of the final project, there is an increasing need for further graphic elaboration that shows the sensitivity and authorship of the individual designer.

Abstract
In the current debate on the role of drawing in the age of computerisation, many theses are rekindling interest in freehand drawing when it seemed that representation was heading in the exclusive direction of technical drawing. There is renewed interest in drawing as a means of knowledge and communication in the design approach and also in the communication of the design itself. Today, digital tools are necessary in every evolutionary phase of the project, but the transposition of the idea onto ‘paper’ always makes use of the freehand sketch (frequently now realised with a graphic tablet). the sketch is then elaborated in the design phase almost exclusively with digital means, but in the final phase of communication and dissemination of the final project, there is an increasing need for further graphic elaboration that shows the sensitivity and authorship of the individual designer.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
