In the process of construction, operation, and repair of buildings and structures, building products and structures from which they are built are subjected to various physical, mechanical, and technological impacts. When examining building structures, one of the indicators of their condition is the actual, or residual, strength of the material from which they are made. As a rule, the actual strength does not coincide with the design and with the initial strength. Construction materials such as concrete change their strength and deformation characteristics under load and in time; in addition, it can occur under the impact of special operating conditions and random factors. The paper discusses examples of improving the strength and deformation characteristics of concrete under operating conditions through fiber reinforcement with steel, glass, alkali, or polymeric materials.
