The electoral reform, promised by the Historical Left before its rise to power but approved only in January 1882, was accompanied by a nationwide mobilization with a “variable geography,” which took shape primarily through public assemblies held mostly in theatres. This volume offers, for the first time, a comprehensive examination—across all provinces of the Kingdom—of the forms, languages, and figures of the campaign for the extension of suffrage during the biennium 1880–1881. It explores the periodizing significance of these demonstrations and the historically complex relationship of Italian men and women with citizenship and political rights.

Abstract
The electoral reform, promised by the Historical Left before its rise to power but approved only in January 1882, was accompanied by a nationwide mobilization with a “variable geography,” which took shape primarily through public assemblies held mostly in theatres. This volume offers, for the first time, a comprehensive examination—across all provinces of the Kingdom—of the forms, languages, and figures of the campaign for the extension of suffrage during the biennium 1880–1881. It explores the periodizing significance of these demonstrations and the historically complex relationship of Italian men and women with citizenship and political rights.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
