The article aims at presenting Polish language as a possible device for self-realization of man. The author refers to Abraham Maslow’s theory of an individual’s selfactualization presented in his work Toward a psychology of being (1962) and proposes to consider Polish language students, for example those from the University of Genoa, as individuals for whom not only the knowledge of Polish, but also the sheer process of learning it can serve as a means of self-realization. The author notes that the selfrealization through Polish language is possible for three different groups of students: foreign speakers, including Italians, for whom Polish is a foreign language, bilingual speakers for whom it is their second language and Poles for whom it is their mother tongue.
