The Italian National Wave Buoy Network (RON) has been upgraded as part of the NextGenerationEU initiative, specifically through the PNRR MER - Marine Ecosystem Restoration project. In this study, we present the first results of wave parameter measurements recorded offshore by the wave buoy located near Alghero. The main improvement in the upgraded buoy is the ability to record displacement data for 30 minutes continuously. This enhancement brings significant advantages. Here, we analyze the differences and benefits observed during a storm event in January 2025. The new buoy system provides more detailed insights into hydrodynamic phenomena, allowing for a more accurate identification of maximum wave heights. Moreover, it offers clear benefits in assessing peak wave periods and wavelengths, which are critical for the design of coastal structures such as breakwaters and seawalls, thereby supporting advancements in the field of coastal engineering.

Abstract
Moreover, it offers clear benefits in assessing peak wave periods and wavelengths, which are critical for the design of coastal structures such as breakwaters and seawalls, thereby supporting advancements in the field of coastal engineering.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
