This study examines the evolution of the Third Sector up to the 2017 reform and analyzes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a parallel model of private contribution to public-interest objectives. It traces the historical and philosophical development of the relationship between private initiative and the public good from the French Revolution onward. The study then considers the legal evolution of the Civil Code through scholarship, case law, and legislation, particularly in light of the Constitution, alongside relevant special laws leading to the 2017 reform. Finally, it explores CSR as a contemporary form of private engagement in activities of public interest.

Abstract

This study examines the evolution of the Third Sector up to the 2017 reform and analyzes Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a parallel model of private contribution to public-interest objectives. It traces the historical and philosophical development of the relationship between private initiative and the public good from the French Revolution onward. The study then considers the legal evolution of the Civil Code through scholarship, case law, and legislation, particularly in light of the Constitution, alongside relevant special laws leading to the 2017 reform. Finally, it explores CSR as a contemporary form of private engagement in activities of public interest.
