This volume brings together the outcomes of a series of seminars and lectures organized at the University of Milan within the research project Berlinguer e gli altri. Political Communication and Visual Production in the Italian Left-Wing System from the 1970s to the 1980s, funded by the Fondazione di Studi Storici Filippo Turati and the Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri. Through contributions by scholars from different disciplinary fields, alongside direct testimonies from protagonists of the period, the volume investigates the visual dimension of political communication in Italy during the 1970s and 1980s. Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between institutional graphic production, activist print culture, feminist practices, youth movements, and forms of visual experimentation connected to broader processes of political and social transformation. By combining perspectives from art history, political history, visual culture, and media studies, the publication offers a critical contribution to the study of the intersections between artistic production, graphic design, and political communication in contemporary Italy.
