This paper contributes to the study of the comparison of literary texts as a critical and exegetical tool in Hellenistic and Roman scholarship, through the analysis of the scholia to Il. XXIV 45 and Eur. Hipp. 386. The investigation deals with three topics: Aristarchus’ proposal to athetise the Iliadic verse; a variant reading in the Homeric text suggested by anonymous grammarians of antiquity; and the explanation of the tragic passage by the ancient commentators of the Hippolytus.

Abstract
This paper contributes to the study of the comparison of literary texts as a critical and exegetical tool in Hellenistic and Roman scholarship, through the analysis of the scholia to Il. XXIV 45 and Eur. Hipp. 386. The investigation deals with three topics: Aristarchus’ proposal to athetise the Iliadic verse; a variant reading in the Homeric text suggested by anonymous grammarians of antiquity; and the explanation of the tragic passage by the ancient commentators of the Hippolytus.File in questo prodotto:
