The paper examines the primary and secondary uses of ceramics in archaeological contexts, focusing on surface traces to reconstruct behavioral patterns associated with their use, reuse, and recycling. At the core of this research is the SHERDs Project, which adopts a multidisciplinary approach to analyze material culture in the Hellenistic and Roman Mediterranean. Case studies from Pompeii and Nora provide a comparative framework, shedding light on domestic waste management, repair techniques, and the functional transformation of ceramic objects. The research combines traditional archaeological methods with advanced bioarchaeological and archaeometric analyses to document and interpret use traces, such as burn marks, tool impressions, and material residues. This integrated methodology offers a deeper understanding of the economic, cultural, and social practices of ancient communities and provides valuable insights for interpreting complex archaeological assemblages across diverse chronological and geographical contexts.

Abstract
This integrated methodology offers a deeper understanding of the economic, cultural, and social practices of ancient communities and provides valuable insights for interpreting complex archaeological assemblages across diverse chronological and geographical contexts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
