The authorities of the Ligurian Republic and, following 1805, those of the French Empire, maintained consistent interest in demographic statistics. With the cooperation of parish priests and mayors, various estimates of the Ligurian population were compiled. Despite inherent inaccuracies and other limitations, these estimates still offer insights into the demographic landscape of Liguria during that period and its subsequent evolution. This article focuses on the demographic data pertaining to Western Liguria, primarily sourced from documents held at the State Archives of Genoa and Savona. These records facilitate an analysis of the demographic and administrative changes that transpired in the region from the late 18th to the early 19th centuries.

Abstract
The authorities of the Ligurian Republic and, following 1805, those of the French Empire, maintained consistent interest in demographic statistics. With the cooperation of parish priests and mayors, various estimates of the Ligurian population were compiled. Despite inherent inaccuracies and other limitations, these estimates still offer insights into the demographic landscape of Liguria during that period and its subsequent evolution. This article focuses on the demographic data pertaining to Western Liguria, primarily sourced from documents held at the State Archives of Genoa and Savona. These records facilitate an analysis of the demographic and administrative changes that transpired in the region from the late 18th to the early 19th centuries.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
