Pompei. L'area delle botteghe VII 14, 2 e VII 14, 8: campagna 2023

The paper presents the results of the 2023 archaeological excavation campaign conducted by the University of Genoa in Insula VII 14 of Pompeii. The investigation focused on shops VII 14, 2 and VII 14, 8, revealing a series of functional transformations that occurred between the late 1st century BCE and 79 CE. In shop VII 14, 2, a productive phase was identified, featuring a series of basins, a well, and a structure that likely served as the base for a large wooden device, possibly a press. This installation, possibly linked to leather processing, was later abandoned as the area was repurposed for commercial use in the 1st century CE. In shop VII 14, 8, excavations uncovered several installations of uncertain function, indicating a reorganization of space and access routes following the seismic swarm that affected the area in the third quarter of the 1st century CE. Overall, the findings offer new insights into the urban and economic development of this sector of Pompeii.
