In recent years, the Cinque Terre – a cluster of five picturesque coastal villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore – have emerged as one of the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations. However, the surge in popularity has brought frequent challenges associated with overtourism. Drawing primarily on national press sources, this essay examines the pivotal phases in the evolution of tourism in the Cinque Terre from the 1960s to the present day, while analysing how perceptions of the destination have shifted in response to transformations driven by the tourism industry.

Abstract
In recent years, the Cinque Terre – a cluster of five picturesque coastal villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore – have emerged as one of the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations. However, the surge in popularity has brought frequent challenges associated with overtourism. Drawing primarily on national press sources, this essay examines the pivotal phases in the evolution of tourism in the Cinque Terre from the 1960s to the present day, while analysing how perceptions of the destination have shifted in response to transformations driven by the tourism industry.File in questo prodotto:
