Il sensus divinitatis in Alvin Plantinga tra epistemologia della religione e natura umana

Alvin Plantinga’s sensus divinitatis between Religious Epistemology and Human Nature · The reception of Alvin Plantinga’s work has focused above all on the justification that this author offers of theistic belief, neglecting the fact that his proposal of religious epistemology depends on having replaced the notion of justification with that of warrant and that his proposal develops by suggesting a rereading of the sensus divinitatis in Aquinas’ and Calvin’s conception. In this contribution I will show how the valorization of these two aspects allows to appreciate a philosophical and theological anthropology present in Plantinga’s writings. This anthropology is characterized by an attention to the history of medieval and modern thought. I will conclude by arguing that his religious epistemology can be adequately understood only in the light of a precise insight of human nature and by highlighting the novelty and criticalities of this approach.

La ricezione dell'opera di Alvin Plantinga si è concentrata soprattutto sulla giustificazione che questo autore offre della credenza teista, trascurando il fatto che la sua proposta di epistemologia religiosa dipende dall'aver sostituito la nozione di giustificazione con quella di garanzia e che la sua proposta si sviluppa suggerendo una rilettura del sensus divinitatis nella concezione di Tommaso d'Aquino e di Calvino. In questo contributo mostrerò come la valorizzazione di questi due aspetti permetta di apprezzare un'antropologia filosofica e teologica presente negli scritti di Plantinga. Tale antropologia è caratterizzata da un'attenzione alla storia del pensiero medievale e moderno. Concluderò sostenendo che la sua epistemologia religiosa può essere adeguatamente compresa solo alla luce di una precisa intuizione della natura umana e sottolineando la novità e le criticità di questo approccio.
