The enduring dimension of time is a crucial element of politics. Starting from this assumption, the article sets out to trace the origin of the union between time understood as duration and politics in the Homeric Poems, since Iliad and Odyssey, by virtue of their educational value, even in the fiction of the epic tale, acquires salience from the point of view of political thought. Through the analysis of some significant passages, the essay aims to highlight how this dimension was present from the beginning, how it conditioned and shaped some conceptualisation of politics, even with significant consequences for later political thought.
