The paper traces a continuity line between Lorenzo Caselli's teaching on the Italian model of public enterprise and the current European economic context, presenting some solutions and successful experiences of European enterprises that express a renewal of the public-private relationship. The analysis shows that a new model is seeing the light in Europe, albeit in specific industrial sectors. The essay concludes by highlighting the need for an industrial policy to systematize these experiences by also fertilising other strategic areas for the future European competitiveness.
