Casi di spostamenti di persone dalla Liguria centrale alla Lombardia e all'Italia nord-orientale nell'epoca napoleonica

After the annexation of Liguria (1805), in an attempt to prevent problems such as desertion French authorities promoted a strict control over the movements of people and collected information even in the smallest inland villages. Hundreds of passport certificates for destinations inside or outside the French Empire were then issued and collected with the aim of regulating but not preventing movements that in the previous period often had a disorderly form. In this article documents relating to Central Liguria, particulary the arrondissement of Genoa, will be examined to analyse some aspects of the most important movements from this area: those to Lombardy and North-East Italy. The aim is mainly to highlight some general characteristics of these movements, as the professions or places of departure of their protagonists, together with the merits and criticalities of a specific documentary source as the passport certificates in Napoleonic Liguria.
