Europe and the West: The Phenomenologies of Crisis and the Canon of Bildung · The essay investigates the phenomenologies of the crisis in Europe and the West through the historical-cultural canon of Bildung. Starting with a critique of the crisis, Gennari first examines the Bürgertum, the Central European Bildungsbürgertum, and the Kultur of capitalism. He then focuses on the construction of the European Community and the path of democracy, highlighting the shift from the force of law to the law of force with the emergence of political-illiberal presidentialism. The analysis is also extended to the geopolitical manifestations of the crisis. Finally, the article converges on the concepts of Austragung and Komposition as principles for interpreting Bildung as a ‘formative composition’ of the human being.

Il saggio indaga le fenomenologie della crisi in Europa e Occidente attraverso il canone storico-culturale della Bildung. A muovere da una critica della crisi, Gennari prende dapprima in esame il Bürgertum, il Bildungsbürgertum mitteleuropeo e la Kultur del capitalismo. Si sofferma poi sulla costruzione dell’Europa comunitaria e sul cammino della democrazia, evidenziando il passaggio dalla forza del diritto al diritto della forza nell’emergere del presidenzialismo politico-illiberale. L’analisi è estesa altresì alle manifestazioni geopolitiche della crisi. Infine, l’articolo converge sui concetti di Austragung e Komposition quali princìpi per interpretare la Bildung come “composizione formante” dell’essere umano.
