The paper investigates the relationship between young Italians and political participation and their approach to participation and communication in the su pranational public sphere. We analyze the case of Volt, the first pan-European party. Volt was born as a result of the impulse of some young people who are trying to explore innovative forms of political involvement, in line with their «de facto» cosmopolitan everyday life. The hypothesis is that Volt is the politi cal expression of «European», who are re-approaching politics from a «post-na tional» perspective, and who look to the EU as a natural framework for their «every-day participation». The research, carried out on the basis of an analysis of documents and through interviews with Italian Volters, investigates the par ticipative and communicative practices of the «network of young Europeans», studies the visions of Europe and the value orientations that guide them, and analyses their organisational models and communication strategies. The re search results confirm that Volt has a profound generational characterisation.
