The essay aims to reconstruct the role played by brother Ginepro da Pompeiana during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War (1935-1936). Starting from an analysis of the complex mixture of nationalism, religion and propaganda, the research traces the Capuchin’s efforts to catalyse consensus among soldiers and local communities, encouraging the sending of sacred images to the colony and exploiting their communicative potential.
